"Fons” is the name of a god, the guardian of a spring worshiped in Ancient Rome. In choosing this mythological figure as patron of this arts/research project, the artist inscribes his work in
a timeless and cosmic order of phenomena. The notion of the “spring” can be understood, in this context, as a primordial “depth”—a point of departure and a first cause of the processes that shape our image of reality, both on a micro-atomic and an intergalactic scale. What particularly intrigues the artist is the existence of an “invisible” matrix responsible for the constant transmission of information and form in the world of physical phenomena. In the Fons project we have an attempt to combine two approaches to photography: documentary and creative. This ambition is also perceptible in two other works by Igor Omulecki. As a springboard for his explorations, the artist uses equipment that transfers the vibrations of sound waves onto the surface of photographic paper. This, in turn, affects the pattern of specks of material, which form surprisingly symmetrical “natural” compositions. Owing to the inventive configuration of the fields that affect sight, hearing, and touch, Omulecki manages to capture ephemeral states of the material in a series of photograms, or “Chladni” figures, named after Ernst
Chladni, their eighteenth-century discoverer. At the same time, the resulting mandalas of sound waves are translated into the language of visibility, which is accessible to the senses through light waves."
